Under Pressure (Dum Dum Dum Dida Dum Dum)

Aged With Perfection Party

Throwing a party is definitely not the easiest thing, even when you are an event planner by trade. But try doing it under these circumstances:

  • It’s for your mom.
  • It’s a milestone birthday
  • It’s at your own facility
  • It’s in your newest ballroom
  • You have six weeks

Throwing a party is definitely not the easiest thing, even when you are an event planner by trade. But try doing it under these circumstances:

  • It’s for your mom.
  • It’s a milestone birthday
  • It’s at your own facility
  • It’s in your newest ballroom
  • You have six weeks

Where do I start? Should it be a surprise? The pressure is on!

Well, I quickly determined that it definitely could not be a surprise for the following reasons:

  • I don’t know all of my parents’ friends
  • I don’t know how to contact all of their ‘said’ friends
  • My Mom and I work together, in the same room
  • My family cannot keep a secret

After setting a date and creating an Evite, the planning began!
I decided on the following party elements:

  • A DJ: Budget Friendly; Decorative Lighting Included; Easily adaptable music
  • A Caterer: Guests are always hungry; I don’t have to cook or cleanup.
  • Balloon Décor: Fun & Festive; Easy Cleanup; Letter Balloons are trendy
  • A Full Bar: Guests are always “thirsty”; Need liquid courage for dancing.
  • A Frozen Yogurt Bar: Who doesn’t love Froyo? Added a unique element!
  • A Photobooth: Captures memories; Excuse to use the “duck face”
  • A Limo: Transportation for VIP guests; Eliminates risk of “party fouling”

All of these things, mixed in with a surprise slideshow, blowing out birthday candles, and dancing to the classic “Hot in Herr” by Nelly, made for a pretty awesome party.

A few key takeaways for the next bash:

  • Timelines are your friend: They help you stay on track leading up to your party
  • Diverse music is important- The Beatles mixed with “The Chainsmokers” gets people dancing!
  • Have gluten-free or vegetarian options. There is always one guest with a food limitation!
  • Water- Remind your guests to stay hydrated & have h20 available!
  • Technology- Always test your audio-visual elements before the party!

Thank you to the following people for a great party:
Yogurt After Dark (Frozen Yogurt Bar)
DJ Mike Stone (DJ & Lighting)
Events by Dezine (Catering)
Events by Design, LLC (Décor)
ClubRett, LLC (Photobooth)
